Each of us got to pick an excursion to do while in Hawaii. The kids could not wait to do both of theirs so I planned them for our first full day in Hawaii. Since there is a 3 hour time change our kids were up bright and early at 5 am! But the weather was perfect at that time of day and there was beautiful walking/running paths all along our beach resort. So while the kids played at the beach I went for a run every morning. I could really become a runner if I lived in Hawaii. It was so refreshing! Hunter wanted to surf north shore so the kids had a surfing lesson that afternoon. The surf school gave us an address to meet them at a beach. They let us know it's very kid friendly, perfect waves to learn on, and there are always turtles swimming in the lagoon there. We pull up to the beach and the waves are massive. There were a couple memorials on the beach of surfers who have died there. We saw some pretty hard core surfers way out in the ocean. I quite frankly was terrified to let my kids even go in the water there, let alone surf. We got there pretty early so we waited awhile not quite sure if this was the right spot or not. We called the surf school, and they said they were on their way. We kind of explained our spot to them and we both figured out this was not the right beach. The right beach was on the other side of the island, an hour away. Load everything back up and drive to the right spot only an hour late for our lesson. Luckily the instructors were so nice and still squeezed our lesson in. They were having so much fun and able to stand up on the boards and full on surf. Haylee's teacher was from Australia and was exactly how you picture a surfer dude. And the accent was to die for. Since our lesson went over a bit on time we had to hurry and get to our next excursion. Haylee wanted to swim with dolphins. She needed an adult so I was the lucky one to do it. But actually Weston and I both didn't want to do it so played rock paper scissors and I lost. We were running late and hit traffic. Again had to call them and they squeezed us in. Our Hawaii vacay was not relaxing at this point!! Super fun, but not relaxing. And with a one year old who has not napped and up at 5 am! Haylee was nervous to get in with the dolphin, but after she warmed up to it she had fun and I couldn't get her out of the water. They are pretty amazing animals. Since we got there late we had to introduce ourselves to the dolphin to make him comfortable with us entering his environment. If you've never introduced yourself to a dolphin, take it from me. It's really awkward. I don't think the dolphin liked us because they had to switch him out for another doplphin because he was getting too anxious. Sorry group, we all had to get out of the water while they did the dolphin switch. Then our new dolphin was really showing off for us. Phew, he liked us. After that we were exhausted from our day and we headed back to Aulani to swim, relax and watch the sunset on the beach!! We sure got a lot of touring done of the whole island that day. Way more than we anticipated but we loved everything about it the island! And Hunter knew that day he was meant to live in Hawaii someday! He was the one sporting his Hawaiian shirt, lai, sunglasses and hat all day!
